Jackie Wray -Community Governor - Jackie is the LAB's data lead.
I am a scientist with a PhD in Chemistry and I completed some postdoctoral research before breaking my career to have my 2 children. After volunteering at my children’s primary school I decided once they started school that I would like a career as a primary teacher. I was a primary teacher for 20 years, teaching Y2 to Y6 in mixed age classes of 2 or 3 year groups at Upton Cross. I have been a governor and deputy headteacher for over 20 years. I completed the Headteacher qualification NPQH and and completed a short stint as an acting Headteacher so I have a very good understanding of all aspects of life in a small school and the community at Upton Cross. I have administered SATs gone through many Ofsted inspections and been responsible for a range of curriculum areas Science, Art, PE, Outdoor Ed and Environmental Education. I had responsibility for DATA across the school and sat on Finance committees and interview panels. I led many projects at the school including working nationally with WWF to produce Learning for Sustainability support materials which were used by government agencies. I led Global education at the school and made links and completed exchange visits with schools from Mumbai India and Tororo Uganda. I successfully applied for many grants to support outdoor learning, learning for sustainability and Global education and was responsible for gaining 100% funding for the solar panels and windturbine at School. I am a keen sports woman and gardener and both these passions I loved to share with my pupils along with the importance of sustainable living for the future of our planet. I played both county hockey and squash and have coaching qualifications in hockey, squash, tennis, football and swimming. My leisure time is now taken up with gardening and tennis.

Headteacher Upton Cross ACE Academy
Emily Goodey - Headteacher
As a child I always wanted to be a teacher, as well as an Olympic swimmer!!! (the latter is on hold!). However, I then went on to study at Falmouth Art School and then to Nottingham Trent University. I graduated with a Graphic Design degree and even though I had such a passion for art, medical issues took me on a different path and made me rethink my life choices. I then followed a dream of teaching English abroad. I studied for my TESOL certificate in Tunbridge Wells and then packed the car and headed off to Spain looking for a job! After 4 weeks of cold calling, I landed myself a job in an English school in Vitoria. After a year, I came home and studied at the College of St Mark and St John for my teaching qualification. I have now taught for 18 years across all the primary age groups, covering mixed year groups and a wide range of SEND. During this time, I have had a family of my own, whom are extremely supportive of my role at school and the most important aspect of my life.
I am now a teaching Headteacher and love it!
Term of office: 16-11-16 to 15-11-20.

Year 5/6 Teacher
Hannah Davies - Staff Governor
I am extremely grateful to have taken on the role of staff governor at Upton Cross ACE Academy. After finishing school I completed my degree in Business Management at Southampton Solent University , however teaching was always what I had wanted to do. I finished my degree and became a teaching assistant. This experience gave me a good head start to completing my teaching degree at the University of St Mark and St John. Although I have only been teaching for 3 years I am passionate about ensuring we provide the best education we can for the children in our school. I am currently working with Years 5 and 6.
Term of office: 08-07-17 - 07-07-21
Declaration of business/pecuniary interest: NIL
Having Qualified in Law at Southampton Solent University and following that the Post Graduate Legal Practice course at the University of Glamorgan, I worked briefly in a Law firm in London before taking a different direction starting a small business in Berkshire supplying beauty products to large retailers throughout the UK. Very quickly the business grew a global trading company suppling products further afield throughout Europe, Asia, America, South Africa and Australasia. In 2014, I sold the business to start a new life with my family on our small holding in Cornwall where we keep a menagerie of animals including alpacas, sheep, ducks and Chickens. I retrained in 2017, undertaking the Post Graduate Certificate in Education with Plymouth University and working as a lecturer in technical and commercial Photography at Cornwall College, as well as working with the level three art students connecting them with local artist across Cornwall where they gained experience working in the arts, readying themselves for their life after education. It has been a huge change for us as a family, a massive learning curve and something I would not change for the world having enjoyed every minute.
