We have a wonderful class of 26 Reception and Year One children who are keen and eager to participate in many of our exciting, fun and engaging activities.
Stara Class is taught by Mrs Hall and our two full time teaching assistants, Mrs Smith and Miss Rowe, along with our part time teaching assistants Mrs Waters and Mrs Easy.
We work in a bright and cheerful classroom where we work hard to provide the children with a rich learning environment. The childrens' work is constantly displayed and celebrated throughout the year.
In addition, we have a fantastic outside area attached to the classroom, and children have constant access to it. This is a safe and well resourced area that enhances learning all year round.
Please continue to read with your child as frequently as possible. Encourage your child to sound out and blend the words to decode them and interact with the text as much as possible. Eg talk about the characters, the story setting, predict what may happen and answer general comprehension questions about the story line.
Reception and Year One children may come home with phonic flashcards. Please support your child with these as frequently as possible.
Look out for our new homework project for the term. These activities have been carefully planned to support and build on your child's learning in school. The idea is to complete the homework together so parents have the opportunity to enrich and extend learning and understanding. The homework is not compulsory but please have some fun and have a go!!
Forest school will continue each week on a Monday afternoon. However, please ensure waterproof clothes and wellington boots are kept in school each day as we will often be working outside linked to our learning.
We have the brilliant Mr Jones in teaching PE this term. PE will be on a Tuesday morning and a full kit is needed in school all week.
Show and tell will be carried out each Wednesday. Items linked to our topic will be chosen first. Please help your child to discuss their item at home so they have plenty of accurate information to share with us in class. We will be asking them questions to help improve communication skills.
Spring 2 Topic - How does your garden grow?
This half term we will be learning all about plants and mini-beasts (see our topic web attached). We will be carrying out lots of cross curricular lessons outside and participating in 'hands on' learning in our beautiful school grounds. Look out for our role play 'farm shop' with real fruit and vegetables!!! We will also be learning the story of 'The Enormous Turnip' and this will enhance our reading and writing tasks in the next few weeks.
If you have any questions or queries about your child please come and see us after school. Thank you for all your wonderful help and support as always.
